Indicator Phrasing

English: % of women aged 15 – 49 years aware of a place where they can get an HIV test

What is its purpose?

The indicator measures the proportion of women aware of where they can get an HIV test – an essential pre-condition for receiving effective treatment (if required) and preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission.

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with a representative sample of women aged 15 – 49 years:

RECOMMENDED SURVEY QUESTIONS (Q) AND POSSIBLE ANSWERS (A)

Q1: Do you know of any place where you can get an HIV test?

A1: yes / no

(ask only if the previous answer is YES)

Q2: Where exactly is that place?

A2: the respondent knows a specific place / the respondent does NOT know a specific place

To calculate the indicator’s value, divide the number of respondents who know a specific place by the total number of interviewed respondents. Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage.

Disaggregate by

Disaggregate the data by the respondent’s location and age.

Important Comments

1) Always verify whether the respondent really knows a specific place and does not just say, for example, (somewhere) “in a district town” or (somewhere) “in a hospital”, without knowing a concrete place.
