24-Hour Health Facilities

Indicator’s Wording

% of health facilities with skilled attendant available 24 hours per day, seven days per week

Indicator’s Purpose

The indicator assesses the proportion of health facilities in a specific area with at least one skilled attendant (doctor, nurse or midwife) available at any time of day or night, seven days per week – an essential pre-condition for women receiving the life-saving care or referrals they need.

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

1) Collect the required data by conducting key informant interviews (health facility staff, health authorities, people living near the health facilities, health facility users), review documents (showing when different people were treated) and spontaneous visits (in the late evening, early morning, weekend, public holiday).

2) To calculate the indicator's value, divide the number of health facilities operating non-stop by the total number of surveyed facilities. Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage.
